Wendy Lord Freelance Health Writer & Dietitian

About Me

Freelance Health Writer

I recently started telling people that I am a Freelance Health Writer and Registered Dietitian. With more than two decades of experience in the healthcare industry to draw on as a dietitian in private practice, I am able to offer you and your clients reliable, scientifically accurate insight and guidance on lifestyle habits that make a difference in their health journey.

Over the course of my career, I have developed a passion for writing science-backed content that is accessible to all; translating scientific and medical jargon into information that everyone can understand. We are living in an era where content is king; everyone has something to share and is jostling for their little corner of the world-wide-web. There is a lot of noise on the internet, though, and your clients are searching for reliable health, wellness and nutrition information. From traditional medicine, to conventional Western medicine, to the more holistic approach of functional medicine, people are searching for answers to their questions about health, disease and treatment options.

As a freelance health and medical writer, I can help you answer your clients questions. It pays to know what your clients want to know and provide them with information they can trust. Drop me an email to start chatting about creating online content for your brand that is backed by science, accurate and reliable. Whether you are looking for a series of informational emails, blog articles, website content, short eBooks, or any other content that appeals to your audience, I am here to help.

How I Came To Be A Freelance Health Writer

I have been blessed with a varied career. My main focus has always been consulting with patients in private practice, helping them overcome their battle with overweight, high cholesterol levels, diabetes, IBS and everything else in between. Diet and nutrition information can be confusing with thousands of online influencers sharing their opinion and what has worked for them. I found my role as a dietitian shifting from being the one giving the information to being the person people turned to to help them make sense of the information they already had.

That means always being on top of the latest trend and the scientific evidence that either backs it or proves it wrong. Although the human body is essentially the same from one person to the next, everyone presents with slightly different ways of metabolizing food and maintaining health. The diet that works exceptionally well for one person, may make someone else feel terrible. When it comes to diet there is no such thing as one-size-fits-all. That is reserved for stretchy socks!

Until the internet became a popular way to share information, the medical world was like a secret society. When you went to your doctor you assumed they had all the answers you needed to feel well again. Today, it is a little different. You are able to research your health issues on your computer, tablet or phone, and have a fairly good idea of what is wrong with you before you even book the appointment. All the online research in the world doesn't help if the information you are reading is not backed by quality scientific research. There is a reason your doctor has to spend so many years learning about the human body and how to treat diseases.

My mission is:
  • To help healthcare professionals
  • Share credible, science-backed information with the public
  • By creating online content that translates complicated medical jargon into easy-to-understand information
  • So that people can make informed decisions about their health.

I love being a dietitian and talking to people about food, their likes and dislikes and finding practical solutions for them to overcome their health problems. I believe that food is there to be enjoyed! It is a fundamental part of our lives, not only for survival but also for enjoyment. In the years of practicing the art of dietetics, I have helped thousands of people and their families find a way to eat that meets their nutritional requirements as well as fitting in to their daily lives. While I am no longer consulting, I have found a new way to help people achieve their goals.

If I have learned anything since leaving university it is that there will always be new doors to open and new opportunities to take me on a journey towards finding what makes my heart sing. Helping people has been a constant feature in my career, but how I do it has changed. It used to be with my calculator and a formal diet plan, now it is with my keyboard, a lot of reading and crafting articles that make sense of complicated health issues.

About me: Freelance Health Writer and Registered Dietitian

Like all women, I wear many hats. I am a daughter, a wife, a mother, a dietitian, a freelance writer. I juggle my work life with my family life, striving to give the best of me to everyone. Most days everything goes well, but when it goes wrong, it all goes wrong!

Professionally, I thrive on helping people just like me.
  • People who are juggling all the balls, but often forget to look after themselves.
  • Individuals who need a gentle push to lose weight or gain health.
  • Women who need to be heard and who need a lifestyle plan that fits into their busy lives.
  • A plan that takes into consideration the school run and the office routine.
  • A plan that can be easily adapted to cater for the fussy eater or the husband who is wondering where his meat and potatoes are.
  • A plan that is effortless, manageable and sustainable.

The past 20+ years have opened windows, giving me great insight into the struggles people face with their health and weight. Men, women and children have shared their struggles with me and made meaningful lifestyle changes to improve their health, with me at their side.

I have enjoyed great variety in my career. And new doors continue opening for me, leading me to explore new options, learn new skills, and develop new connections.
